This is a clip of Steve Wozniak participating in the panel discussion event about the singularity movie, Transcendent Man Live. This event was the follow up to the singularity movie about Ray Kurzweil and his book The Singularity is Near, Transcendent Man. Throughout the program, clips from the singularity movie are played, and are followed by a discussion amongst the panelists.

Steve Wozniak: We started with Apple computer. We were at a point in history where we never imagined a computer would have enough memory to store a song, to store a few songs, to store maybe all your favorite songs, to store maybe every song and every movie you’ve ever seen in your life. We didn’t think that and now it’s all on one little chip. So and yet we could predict it. We knew Moore’s law; we knew it’s got to happen. But you can’t even, you’re afraid to touch these things that are so far off in the future, more than a year away that you’re working on today, that you can see the outcome before you start, you know. Your feet are on the ground as an engineer.
It’s very hard to say, “What’s it going to be like when they happen?” It’s hard to get other people, even companies. I had trouble once I saw that our computers were getting near enough memory to put a video screen on your computer. You could now start editing videos, like we used to do with the old handheld, you know, mechanical machines that weren’t computers. I came from that background. And I said, “Oh, my gosh!” I tried to talk Apple into maybe in the future computers are going to be video editing machines. You want to build, you know, what’ll sell today and what you know today and just extend what you have today and oh, my gosh it comes on by a surprise, it hits you and you didn’t know it.
