Ben Goertzel is an American engineer, author and researcher in the field of artificial intelligence. His research work encompasses artificial general intelligence, natural language processing, cognitive science, data mining, machine learning, computational finance, bioinformatics, virtual worlds and gaming and other areas.  He was interviewed in the singularity documentary, Transcendent Man. After watching, go have a chat with the popular web-based AI, Cleverbot.

Transcendent Man, Ben Goertzel:

There certainly will come a time when an artificial intelligence will say, “Yes, I’m self-aware, I’m conscious, and I deserve rights.” The more subtle, philosophical question is whether you can believe it. I wouldn’t want to minimize the subtlety and interest of this issue, but I do think that once we create AIs that say they’re conscious and interact with us in flexible ways, the philosophical problem will become kind of irrelevant. Just in the same way it’s irrelevant right now. I got to interact with you as if you’re conscious, whether or not I believe you are. I think people will interact with the AIs in the same way when push comes to shove.

Transcendent Man :Artificial Intelligence

The singularity documentary that chronicles the life and ideas of Ray Kurzweil(inventor and futurist). Ray also known for his bold vision of the Singularity, a point in the near future when technology will be changing so rapidly, that we will have to enhance ourselves with artificial intelligence to keep up. Ray predicts this will be the dawning of a new civilization in which we will no longer be dependent on our physical bodies. We will be billions of times more intelligent. There will be no clear distinction between human and machine, real reality and virtual reality.

Human aging and illness will be reversed world hunger and poverty will be solved and we will ultimately cure death. Critics accuse Ray of being too optimistic and argue that the dangers of the Singularity far outweigh the benefits. Which pointing out the apocalyptic implications that once machines achieve consciousness. We may not be able to control them. Whether Ray’s controversial ideas incite excitement or fear, dogma or disbelief this ambitious documentary. This will forever change the way you look at life, death, and your own future.
