Ray Kurzweil: The three great overlapping revolutions, sometimes goes by the letters GNR – Genetics, Nanotechnology(Nanobots), Robotics (Superhuman Intelligence). G stands for genetics, really another word for it is biotechnology, is genetics or the information processes in our biology. We ultimately will actually be able to reprogram biology away from disease and from aging.

N stands for nanotechnology. In the next twenty-five years we will have nanobots, blood cells-sized devices, that go inside your body and keep you healthy from inside. That go in your brain and interact with your biological neurons and allows us to merge with non-biological intelligence. R stands for robotics, robots, really though refers to artificial intelligence, and that’s the most significant revolution of all.

In about twenty years, I’ve set the date 2029, a machine, an AI, will be able to match human intelligence and go beyond it. Artificial intelligence, which will give us not just more human intelligence, but will actually give us superhuman intelligence, will enable us to solve problems that we are not able to solve today.

Human aging and illness will be reversed; world hunger and poverty will be solved and we will ultimately cure death. Critics accuse Ray of being too optimistic and argue that the dangers of the Singularity far outweigh the benefits, pointing out the apocalyptic implications that once machines achieve consciousness. We may not be able to control them. Whether Ray’s controversial ideas incite excitement or fear, dogma or disbelief this ambitious documentary. This will forever change the way you look at life, death, and your own future.

TRANSCENDENT MAN: The Life and Ideas of Ray Kurzweil

The singularity documentary that chronicles the life and ideas of Ray Kurzweil, the inventor and futurist known for his bold vision of the Singularity, a point in the near future when technology will be changing so rapidly, that we will have to enhance ourselves with artificial intelligence to keep up. Ray predicts this will be the dawning of a new civilization in which we will no longer be dependent on our physical bodies. We will be billions of times more intelligent and there will be no clear distinction between human and machine, real reality and virtual reality.
